Shetland is about 200 miles north of Aberdeen in Scotland and a similar distance from Bergen on Norway’s west coast. There is a daily overnight ferry link to and from Aberdeen which also calls at Orkney several times a week.

Regular flights throughout the year connect Shetland directly with Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Kirkwall in Orkney. There are connections to all main UK airports through British Airways or Flybe. The flight from Aberdeen is one hour.
Connections within Shetland are excellent with frequent car ferries to most of the islands and a splendid road network. Buses connect most areas, with a particularly good service in the South Mainland, although to fully explore the islands, car hire is recommended. Cycling is a pleasure on the quiet roads but beware the hills and headwinds!

Nort Neuk is a 15 minute drive from Lerwick, the capital and only town in Shetland, and a 15 minute drive from the airport at Sumburgh. The cottage is only a 50 yard walk from the local bus stop which provides an excellent daily regular service north to Lerwick and beyond or south to Sumburgh.

Please see our links page for transport providers.
