Although
it may look small on a map Shetland is surprisingly big and extends
over a large area from Sumburgh in the south to the northernmost
point on the British Isles. Although spread over a wide area of
ocean the isles benefit from a network of very good roads and regular,
affordable,
ferries. Mucklehus, within one mile of the road
running through the Mainland of Shetland, is in easy reach of all
areas. Lerwick, the capital and main town is within half an hours
drive of Mucklehus and even the island of Unst can easily be
visited on a day trip. Other outlying islands can be visited by
ferries or by a light aircraft service. There are bus services
but to fully explore the isles a car is recommended. |
